June 27 – 2012 13th Street White Palette – 2014 Thirty Bench Small Lot Rosé

2012 13th Street White Palette – Vintages 207340 – $15.95 – **** – This is a blend of Chardonnay, Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Sauvignon Blanc, and Pinot Gris.  This may be the best version of the White Palette I have ever had the chance to try.  The nose on this wine is very distinctly Riesling.  It has apple and lime with mineral notes.  It also ever so subtly gives off aromas of white flower and tropical fruit begin to reveal themselves.  The flavours take more of a quality of gewurtraminer with tropical fruit, peach with a nice floral quality on the finish.  The acidity is nice and refreshing but this highly aromatic wine lingers on the finish.  This will make a great match to any spicy asian cuisine.

2014 Thirty Bench Small Lot Rosé – Vintages 414227 – $22.20 – ***1/2+ – This is truly the summer of Rosé at the LCBO.  Another fine pink wine hits the shelves.  You have citrus notes of grapefruit that dominate the nose on this wine.  The flavours are grapefruit with strawberry and watermelon tossed in there and on the finish you have a nice savoury edge to this wine.  This is the sort of wine I like to serve with Ribs.  The acidity and strong citrus notes help power through a barbeque sauce, and the strawberry flavours work in harmony with the sweetness in the sauce.  When you get to the savory note on the finish it just leaves your mouth wanting another piece of meat and another glass of wine.
