Wine Review September 6 – 2013 Featherstone Black Sheep Riesling – 2012 Rosewood Select Series Pinot Noir

2013 Featherstone Black Sheep Riesling – Vintages 80234 – $16.95 – The Black Sheep Riesling is one of my “go to” wines year round.  I consider this wine a benchmark for consistency and quality.  This wine is off-dry but you wouldn’t know it because of great acidity on the finish.  There are flavours of Green Apple and Grapefruit and a nice minerality.  Light and easy drinking this will pair well with grilled chicken, creamy pasta dishes or toss it in the basket for lighter picnic fare.

2012 Rosewood Select Series Pinot Noir – Vintages 112177 – $21.95 – This may look like a new winery on the surface but it’s just the new fantastic labels from Rosewood.  The wine inside the bottle matches the beautiful packaging on the outside.  Very soft on the palate with loads of Raspberry, and Cherry.  Well balanced with nice acidity makes this both food friendly and age-worthy.  This will pair great with lamb and duck.  Drinking fantastic now right out of the bottle but should develop nicely over the next 6-8 years.   This is easily one of the best values when it comes to Pinot from Ontario.
