Wine Review October 11 – 2012 Cave Spring Estate Bottled Gewurztraminer – 2012 Featherstone Red Tail Merlot

141011 - Cave Spring Gewurztraminer

2012 Cave Spring Estate Bottled Gewurztraminer – Vintages 302059 – $17.95 – Bone Dry and Very Floral.  Nice balanced acidity.  This Gewurz is very delicious.  This will make a perfect match to asian cuisine like pad thai, or spicy stir fry.  Don’t let these food choices limit you … the fact that this wine is bone dry really makes it versatile with just about anything you can throw at it.  However a wine like this needs no food to be properly enjoyed.  This would make a great sipper on a friday night on it’s own.

2012 Featherstone Red Tail Merlot – Vintages 131540 – $19.95 – This wine is always fantastic… simply put this Merlot sets the benchmark for consistency from a varietal that has a habit of coming out of the bottle under-ripe.  Lots of very ripe, and juice flavours of raspberry, plum and cherry with velvety smooth tannin on the finish.  This is something worth picking up more than one bottle and enjoy it over the next few years.  However, there is no cellaring needed to enjoy this wine right now!  This will pair with your beef dishes.
