Wine Review March 9, 2013 – 2011 Tawse Gamay Noir – 2011 Sue-Ann Staff Loved by Lu Riesling

2011 Tawse Gamay Noir – Vintages 322545 – $18.95 – Gamay is an interesting grape … most serious wine fans don’t pay a lot of attention to it unless it’s the Nouveau release.  I have friends in France who will give you a hard time if you’re caught with a bottle of beaujolais in your possesion no matter how good it is.  That being said, there is an interesting trend picking up steam in Niagara and that is serious wineries putting together some serious Gamay.  This wine from Tawse is no exception!  Excellent for so many reasons one of which is the price.  Lots of flavours of Cherry turning to Raspberry as it fills your mouth with what the bottle has to offer.  A nice finish with just a little bit of spice as it rolls off the back of your tongue.  The great thing about Gamay is that it is very food friendly, and will pair with most dishes except the heaviest of Red meats.

2011 Sue-Ann Staff “Loved by Lu” Riesling – Vintages 322636 – $16.95 – I am a huge fan of Sue-Ann’s wines.  This is a nice crisp off dry Riesling that is loaded with Citrus flavours with loads of Lemon, Lime and Grapefruit.  The best part about an off dry Riesling is the nice acidity that leaves your tongue with a bit of a sizzle.  This balance of sweet and acidity make it good to pair with just about anything.  But this is one that is so good I would drink it on it’s own.
