Wine Review - Hush Heath Balfour 1503 Classic Cuvée Brut

Well this is something you don’t see everyday, Sparkling wine from England. I bought this bottle from the Vintages Classics catalog and frankly at the price it was worth the risk. I am looking forward to seeing what else comes from England in the future.

Hush Heath Balfour 1503 Classic Cuvée Brut Sparkling – Vintages 516542 – $37.00 – **** – I don’t usually take the time to write about a wine that is no longer available, but this one deserves some attention. This recently made its way through the Vintages Classics catalog. And at thirty seven dollars I felt it was worth taking a chance on trying a bottle of sparkling wine from England. That’s right – one of the up and coming regions on the planet is England! Needless to say, I was not disappointed when I had a chance to pop this bottle. It’s traditional method and made with Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. The aromas and flavours are bright and crisp with a nice note or rising dough climbing out of the glass. Through and through this is citrus on the palate and it opens up with a beautiful texture. The acidity is bright and crisp – exactly what you should expect from a well made bottle of bubbly. In true British fashion the food pairing suggestion on the bottle suggests this match with fish and chips – Who am I to argue? I am certain that we will see this again in the vintages catalog and keep this in mind because this release sold out very quickly and I imagine it will do the same in the future.
