Wine Review - Hinterland 2015 Les Etoiles

Hinterland 2015 Les Etoiles – $43.00 – ****½ – In 2015 Hinterland got hit with a late frost and much of the crop was lost – so the bad news is there isn’t much of this wine for sale. The good news is that this is one of the best bottles to come out of Hinterland. Simply put, this is the most approachable les Etoiles to date. There is so much going on in this bottle it feels like the layers of fruit, spice, and vanilla go on forever. The aromas are crisp citrus mated with fresh peach. On the palate this has a pinch of spice and a nice dose of vanilla are mated with the fruit from the nose. Crisp acids, and a finish that lingers with hints of vanilla is just satisfying. Enjoy this now, or cellar this rare bottle away for a special occasion – but frankly opening one of these rare bottles in itself would be a very special occasion indeed.
