Wine Review April 29, 2012 – 2011 Featherstone Black Sheep Riesling – 2008 Wildass Red

This weekend I am in Niagara around the Twenty Valley area to check out Get Fresh in the Valley.  You buy a passport at www.20valley.ca and it gives you access to wine and food pairings at the wineries.  I had a chance to go to Wrapped up in the Valley last fall and it was easily my favourite wine event from last year.

2008 Wildass Red (Stratus) – VINTAGES 86363 – $19.95 – Many of the Red blends I have had the pleasure of trying can be called unusual, but I have never seen a wine made with 11 different types of grapes.  A nice balance of Juicy Berries are the main flavours you find in this bottle with a nice subtle spicy finish.  A red that is great right out of the bottle.

2011 Feathersone Black Sheep Riesling – VINTAGES 80234 – $16.95 – This wine is fantastic, a great balance of a touch of sweetness and acidity makes this very easy to drink.  Strong flavours of Peach and Lemon.  Why is this wine called Black Sheep? Featherstone use sheep in the vineyards to eat at the leaves on the lower branches of the vines.  The sheep directly help make this wonderful Riesling.
