Wine Review - 2016 Vineland Cabernet Franc

2016 Vineland Cabernet Franc – $14.95 – LCBO 594127 – **** – The Cabernet Franc from Vineland that occupies space in the general list at the LCBO is one of my go-to bottles to enjoy and rely on. In my home I have an adage that I won’t cook with anything I won’t drink – but I know I can’t afford to dump a $25 or $30 bottle of anything into a pot without shedding a tear. The aromas on this wine offer a hint of the signature herbaceousness that you expect from Franc… but the fruit is a reflection of the crazy hot, and dry 2016 summer – black currant, blackberry, plum, and raspberry climb out of your glass with nice concentration and weight. What is most incredible about this wine is that while it’s approachable and easy drinking now it will be worth picking up a few bottles to allow to evolve in a cellar for 3-5 years.
