2016 Organized Crime Chardonnay – Vintages 408435 – $18.95 – **** – It should be no surprise the the fruit in this bottle comes off as a little cooked – baked apple or grilled pineapple will climb their way out of your glass. But do not despair – the warm fruit are kept in check with great acidity and restrained use of oak. Grilled or roast chicken or turkey, or turkey burgers, or just a second glass are my suggested pairings.
2016 Closson Chase Closson Chase Vineyard Pinot Noir – Vintages 145888 – $34.95 – **** – I haven’t made up my mind on whether this is more elegant, or a little rough around the edges. It’s definitely a bit of both, and it would seem that since winemaker Keith Tyers has taken the helm of the winemaking at Closson things have gotten very interesting. So many things are right in this bottle with flavours and aromas of violet, ripe cherry, spice, and just a hint of earthiness that will work it’s way out with a few years in a cellar. I plan on drinking this the moment I get my hands on it.
