Wine Review - 2016 2027 Cellars Edgerock Vineyard Pinot Noir - 2016 Rosewood Sussreserve Riesling

2016 Rosewood Sussreserve Riesling – Vintages 258806 – $15.95 – **** – I really do love this wine in the summer – something about cracking a bottle of the Suss and opening it next to chicken off the smoker, or sausages off the barbeque. There is a bit of sweetness, but this continues to be a more austere version of this wine from previous vintages. There is lime, golden delicious apple, and peach in the bottle… and maybe it’s the bees at Rosewood talking to me, but there is definitely a honey note that comes through on the nose and on the finish. This is a wine that is drinking great right now, but I would be curious to see how it might evolve in a cellar for 3-5 years.

2016 2027 Cellars Edgerock Vineyard Pinot Noir – Vintages 561035 – $24.95 – **** – It’s always exciting to see a new release from 2027 Cellars on the vintages shelves – the wines from Kevin Panagapka offer the perfect balance of quality and value. It’s an exciting time for PInot Noir in Ontario as quality bottles keep working their way into my glass at a lower and lower price point. 2027 Cellars offers a benchmark for price to value in the province. This bottle of PInot is wonderfully complex, yet approachable – Violet, Cherry, Strawberry, and a slight vanilla note envelops the fruit. There is a slight earthiness on the finish. Something worth picking up a few bottles of – but good luck keeping them in the cellar for long.
