2015 Trius Red – Vintages 303800 – $24.95 – **** – This continues to be a benchmark for Bordeaux varietals in Ontario. It offers fantastic value and continues to be a staple to build a cellar. The nose on this bottle offers up raspberry, blackberry and a nice cocoa note. The flavours match the nose with a nice smoky note on the finish. The tannin is still firm, but the fruit flavours still soar. This is approachable and can be enjoyed immediately next to roast or grilled red meats… But this will age in a cellar for 5-10 years.
2014 Rosewood Origin Mima’s Block Riesling – Vintages 520262 – **** – Bone dry and austere with a beautiful mineral note that goes from start to finish. The laser focused acidity keeps this wine in check but there is definitely a touch of sugar keeping the fruit fresh and refreshing. Fruit is lemon and lime but the mineral note is front and centre here. This is begging to be paired with heartier Bavarian cuisine or Eastern European fare (that’s just a fancy way of saying Perogies and Sausages)
2014’s rosewood origin mima’s block Riesling is so good, and I remember the first time I drank this wine. I was at a friend’s party, and one of my close friends told me that I should try out this drink. It was the best drink I had that year.
