2013 Cave Spring Estate Bottles Gewurztraminer – Vintages 302059 – $17.95 – ****+ – If there is any reason we should stop trying to compare Niagara to other wine regions it’s Gewurztraminer. If you go in expecting Alsace or Germany… you’re going to be disappointed… if you can get over yourself, you will find something completely different. The floral aromas are honey and rose with flavours that match. The texture is light with some nice acidity that balances out an off-dry wine. What you get is a Gew that is very food friendly and easy drinking.
2010 Henry of Pelham Speck Family Reserve Pinot Noir – Vintages 657874 – $34.95 – **** – I realize the price of entry on this bottle is pushing up on thirty five dollars, but this really isn’t that bad for a bottle that has been waiting for seven years for it’s real ease from an exceptional vintage for Ontario. There is a beautiful balance between earthiness and nice cherry and cranberry. This is ready to drink now without needing to spend any more time in a cellar… but if you wanted to hold this for another two or three years that shouldn’t be a problem.
