Vineland – 2014 Semi-Dry Riesling – 2014 Cabernet Franc

2014 Vineland Cabernet Franc – LCBO 594127 – $14.95 – **** – Winemaker Brian Schmidt is some kind of Wizard when it comes to working with Cabernet Franc. This wine is great and textbook cabernet franc. The fact that it is only fifteen dollars is an added bonus. The nose is ripe Raspberry and Blackberry with just hints of herb mixed in there the flavours match with hints of smoke bringing up the finish. This wine is not complicated or sophisticated it’s just good, easy drinking, well-made wine that is meant to be enjoyed as soon as you can get your hands on the bottle. This will pair perfectly with virtually any red meat you can grill or roast.

2014 Vineland Estates Semi-Dry Riesling – LCBO 232033 – $14.95 – **** – How well can a fifteen dollar bottle of wine age? I intent to find out when the 2014 Semi-Dry Riesling makes its way to the LCBO shelves I will be picking up a couple of bottles to put on the wine rack to age for a few years to see how it develops. The alcohol in this wine is only 9% but the Sugar and Acidity is quite high and very well balanced. You get flavours of Peach and Pear with Citrus notes a little muted by the sweetness of the wine, but don’t worry the bright acidity brings up the finish leaving your mouth refreshed and begging for the next sip.
