Trius Brut Rosé – Vintages 184309 – $32.95 – **** – The red fruit is fresh and vibrant on the nose and it oozes out of the glass with a nice richness. When you take your first sip of this wine it makes your taste buds snap to attention with a nice citrus note leading the way. The red fruit from the nose fights for attention over the bright, crisp acidity … but the way these flavours all end up together is harmonious. It may not be what comes to mind for most people when cracking a bottle of bubbly, but I would serve this with a medium rare steak.
2016 Cave Spring Estate Bottled Chardonnay Musqué – Vintages 246579 – $17.95 – ****+ – It would seem that the heat from the 2016 summer has brought some depth to this wine. Musqué from Cave Spring has always been food friendly, crisp, and have a nice floral quality that gives it a certain “je ne sais quoi”. This year, there is a bit of weight to this wine on the mid-palate. The fruit pushes into peach and pineapple – the floral note is still there, but it’s buried deep under an avalanche of orchard fruit. In spite of the weight on the mid-gopalate this still finishes with great food friendly acidity.
