In the fall I had a chance to attend a dinner where the revamped portfolio for Colio was released. I have been very pleased with what I’ve tasted so far from the Bricklayer’s wines that have made it through the LCBO so far (https://tmblr.co/ZZ_vXw1GQYrtT) but when I had to a chance to taste the Cabernet Franc I was stunned. I am a big Cab Franc fan and have a wine rack full of it waiting to age.
2012 Bricklayer’s Reward Old Farm Cabernet Franc – Vintages 395277 – $18.95 – I often write about wines that I say outperform their price point… but this wine is punching well out of its weight class. The exceptionally hot 2012 summer really comes through in the glass with flavours of loads of fresh ripe raspberry and black currant. The finish is just a kiss of very smooth dark chocolate and smoke that rises to the roof of your mouth with a nice long finish. This wine will age for another 5-7 years but is drinking fantastic right now as the tannin is very smooth. At this price pick up a few bottles to enjoy over the next few years.
