Let’s consider these two reviews as bonus content for the week. While both of these wines aren’t available in Vintages they are too good to not write about.
2013 Rosewood Locked and Loaded – $19.95 – (August Release) – ****+ – I got a chance to taste this wine right after it was put into bottle. It’s hard to believe that this is going to be only twenty bucks. The package and label is everything as awesome as the Lock, Stock and Barrel. A Bordeaux blend that is Merlot heavy there is lots of Cherry, Blackberry, Raspberry and hints of Currant with just a touch of savory herb. This is the sort of wine that at this price point it would be a welcome addition to your table for a special occasion with a prime rib roast or fire up the BBQ and cook up some homemade burgers. This should age gracefully over the next 5-7 years.
2013 Featherstone Canadian Oak Chardonnay – $21.95 – (Fall Release) – ****+ – I’m not going to beat around the bush, this is the best Canadian Oak Chardonnay I have had the chance to try from Featherstone. The nose is delicious vanilla, baking spice and roasted pineapple. Once the wine hits your mouth flavours lean towards roasted pineapple, cooked peach with nice vanilla notes. The wine was made using indigenous yeast and fermented in Canadian Oak barrels. I really hope we see more wines like this as it doesn’t get more local than this. Food pairings will be creamy pasta dishes, homemade buttermilk fried chicken (keep it classy), or better yet enjoy it on it’s own.
