There are some incredible things afoot at Rosehall Run as they enter their 15th year. In 2001 the farm was purchased and the vines were planted.
2014 Indigo Sparkling – $24.95 – **** – This is a blend of Chardonnay Musqué, Muscat Ottonel, and Ehrenfelser. There’s a good chance you’re not familiar with two or all of the varietals in this bottle. These are grapes you don’t see very often. The aromas on this wine are light and crisp with a nice wildflower note. Offering up granny smith apple, citrus flavours and the floral quality from the nose follows through on the finish. This is perfectly balanced with nice acidity but leaving you a bit of sweetness on the finish. This is an essential summer wine. This can easily be enjoyed on a patio on its own, or you can pair this with fresh fish caught from whichever lake is closest to you. This wine for Indigo who was winemaker Dan Sullivan’s former black lab.
2015 Just One Rose – $17.95 – ****+ – This is one of the best Rosé’s I have ever had. This blend of Gamay Noir and Pinot Noir bring you Raspberry and Strawberry on the nose. This is exactly what you expect from this wine. When you put the wine in your mouth you get flavours that match the nose… pretty typical. But then as the flavours unravel on your palate you get this incredible creamy texture. It’s as if the rich red fruit flavours from this wine are conquering every part of your mouth and setting up shop to stay. That’s not even the best part, this wine is very dry. There is just a touch of sweetness to keep the fruit fresh and vibrant, but with all the fruit that lingers the sweetness is washed away by perfect acidity.
Ceremony Blanc de Blanc Brut – $34.95 – ****+ – This is the first traditional method sparkling from Rosehall Run. What a way to make an entrance! Blanc de Blanc means this wine is made completely of Chardonnay. The nose offers up bright Lemon notes and rising bread with hints of vanilla. The flavours are Apple layered over Lemon and hints of vanilla poking through. The finish is bright, crisp and clean. The label says Ceremony and this would make a welcome addition to any celebration.
2013 JCR Rosehall Vineyard Chardonnay – $29.95 – ****1/2 – How can a wine be intense and subtle at the same time? Winemaker Dan Sullivan has answered that question handily with this wine. The nose pulls you into the glass with a barrage of Apple, Peach, Pineapple, Vanilla and whispers of Spice. When you take your first sip it’s almost confusing because the intensity on the nose is replaced with this restrained and elegant wine. Perfectly integrated oak caress the fruit flavours from the nose but the delicacy of this wine bring a nice mineral note on the finish. The finish on this wine lasts a long time. This is a wine that I have no intention of pairing with any food because I don’t want anything to interfere with the flavour of this wine.
