2013 Megalomaniac Big Kahuna – $34.95 – ****+ – This is another great example of everything that’s right with Ontario in a typical summer. This wine calls itself the Big Kahuna, but it’s not as brash as the label would suggest. This wine is pure elegance. The aromas are ripe raspberry and blackberry with a whisper of cocoa. The flavours match the nose. The tannin is velvet soft and this wine drinks dangerously easy. This should last 3-5 years in a cellar, but if you ask me this wine is meant to be enjoyed young.
2015 Megalomaniac My Way Chardonnay – $24.95 – **** – I was once told by proprietor John Howard that Megalomaniac would never make Chardonnay. I am very pleased to see this wine in the lineup. This is everything you could ask for in a well made, well-priced Ontario Chardonnay. The nose brings out apple, mineral and whispers of vanilla. The mineral note is clean and refreshing. The acidity is bright and clean. This wine is put together like a perfectly focused photograph.
