2015 La Crema Monterey Chardonnay – **** – This offers up a solid textbook California Chardonnay – this won’t be for everyone but If you’re looking for buttered popcorn, and pineapple this is your way in. The flavours are nice and concentrated and the creamy mouthfeel feels as though it will never leave your mouth. That being said even though this opens in your mouth with the intensity of a firework there is still some acidity to bring up the rear. Even with some acidity there are strong notes of vanilla and butterscotch linger. This may be a challenge to pair with food unless you’re looking at creamy pasta dishes.
2014 La Crema Monterey Pinot Noir – **** – Something a little rich and a little chocolatey rises out of glass over very ripe red cherry and juicy blackberry. This is quite typically a Californian Pinot Noir. The fruit is very ripe and juicy so much that it fills your mouth from cheek to cheek. What does set this apart is there is a nice acidity that helps keep this from being an invasion on the palate. The finish is refreshing and delicious and leaves your mouth with a clean finish and a cocoa note that lingers long after the wine is gone. The acidity has this wine begging for food and this will make a great match to grilled beef or lamb.
