2016 The Hare Crown Land White – Vintages 547786 – $18.50 – **** – A blend of Gewurztraminer and Riesling – this bottle offers fantastic balance of these two grapes. The aromas are unapologetically rosewater and lychee in spades. On the palate this matches the nose and has me wondering when the Riesling is going to show up. This has some weight on the mid palate, which is what you would expect from Gewurztraminer from Ontario. The finish is where the riesling makes its presence known as this finishes crisp and clean.
2014 Osoyoos Larose Petales D’Osoyoos – Vintages 276741 – $28.95 – **** – I love that this wine exists… because I don’t have a lot of patience. This gives me something to tide me over while my bottles of Le Grand Vin are sitting on their side waiting to be opened. Aromas and flavours of strawberry, and cherry are met with cocoa and smoke. Even though this is the “approachable” sibling to le Grand Vin it could still do with some decanting or definitely spend some time in a cellar if you wanted to keep a bottle for 5-7 years.
