Wine Review April 20 – Union Rose – 2011 Norman Hardie Unfiltered County Pinot Noir

Get Fresh in the Valley starts this weekend!  This is my favorite wine event of the year and I am always looking forward to it.  You get wine and you get food matched up at 24 different wineries.  Tickets available here: https://www.20valley.ca/page/store .  You also get Recipe cards at each of the participating wineries.  This is fantastic because we all fall into the habit of drinking the same thing week in and week out … Stop it!  Buy your passports and discover … and re-discover some great wines.

Union Rose – LCBO 275685 – $13.95 – Spring is in the air… err the bottle.  I am very excited about the warmer weather as most people switch to lighter wines.  Rosé is the swiss army knife of the wine world.  Serve chilled, but it is still very good as it warms up in the glass.  Whether you are cooking lighter fare such as chicken or fish it will match up great… but if you decide to toss some red meat on the grill you still have a wine to match.  Flavours of Strawberry and Rhubarb with a nice lingering finish and just a little bit of sugar on the finish balanced with nice palette cleansing acidity.

Since this wine was tasted Norman Hardie has been accused of sexual misconduct. The article can be found here – https://www.theglobeandmail.com/canada/article-canadian-winemaker-norman-hardie-accused-of-sexual-misconduct/

Norman Hardie 2011 County Pinot Noir Unfiltered – VINTAGES 125310 – $35.00 – Last year the 2010 Unfiltered Pinot Noir was the most expensive bottle of wine I bought.  As much as I don’t like spending much more than $20 on a bottle of wine I will happily fork over the cash if it’s worth it.  I’m cheap… but I love value!  This is a wine that is sure to impress.  Filled with flavours of Raspberry and Cherry… it will be difficult to take your first sip because the aroma on this wine is just so good.  This is the wine to bring to your table to impress.
