2014 Hinterland Borealis Method Charmat Rosé – Vintages 431817 – $22.00 – **** – This rosé sparkler has captured the essence of Gamay. Walking on a tightrope of balance there is a little sweetness on the finish of this wine that line up perfectly with the bubbles and acidity. The nose is candied cherry and strawberry and the flavours match. The finish is clean, crisp and leaves you with just a hint of spice to remind you that this is Gamay and nothing else. Even though Thanksgiving has just passed I am looking to pair this with Turkey for my celebrations in December, but frankly there isn’t much that won’t pair with this wine.
2012 Lakeview Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon – Vintages 438390 – $29.95 – ****+ – This is straight up very good Cab Sauv from a hot vintage. The nose is Raspberry, Black Currant, Blackberry and Smoky Oak that rises out of the glass with intensity begging to be consumed. The flavours are Raspberry, Black Currant, Blackberry, Dark Plum with Cocoa, Licorice and Smoke notes on the finish. The tannin is already smooth but very present. This wine should age for another 7-10 years in a cellar. Pair this with beef dishes whether it’s steak or a roast.
