2013 Cave Spring Estate Bottled Chardonnay – Vintages 256552 – $18.95 – **** – Chardonnay under twenty dollars is quickly becoming my favorite price point for Ontario… simply put, because I can afford to drink it. Cave Spring has given us a very tasty wine that gives us a nice balance between bright fruit flavours and subtle oak. Apples, Peaches and Citrus are layered over Vanilla and Spice on the finish. Great value for your money this Chard will make a welcome addition to my summer entertaining.
2013 Tawse Gamay Noir – Vintages 322545 – $18.95 – ****+ – This is very good. Dark Cherry on the nose climb out of the glass. Flavours of Dark Cherry dominate with nice hints of pepper on the finish. Great acidity rounds out the package. If you’re looking for a way to build up your cellar with some good Ontario wines without breaking the bank Gamay is a good way to go. This will age 5-8 years, but if you’re impatient it is drinking great right now.
