2016 Bachelder Wismer-Foxcroft Vineyard Gamay Noir

2016 Bachelder Wismer-Foxcroft Vineyard Gamay Noir – ****+ – It’s about time we get to see what Thomas Bachelder could do with Gamay. When I visited Beaujolais in 2014 winemakers would talk about wines they called “presqu’pinot” (almost Pinot). I’m not surprised that that this wine would end up with that treatment from Thomas. The aromas are rich cherry with a nice vanilla hug wrapping up all that fruit. On the palate this is lush and juicy with cherry and blackberry. The vanilla really starts to open up as this wine sits on the palate – the signature spice from Gamay makes an appearance on the finish to remind you that this wine is in fact as advertised on the label.
