2015 Dirty Laundry Woo Woo Vines Gewurztraminer – Vintages 245140 – $18.95 – Whether it’s Niagara or the Okanagan Canada is kind of doing it’s own thing when it comes to Gewurztraminer. The texture of the wine typically falls halfway between what you would expect from Alsace or Germany. There is nice acidity that helps keep this from sitting too heavy on the palate. There is nice rose petal and lychee – it’s pretty much what you would expect. But then, there is also notes of peach and apple that make it easy to picture you’re standing in the orchards of British Columbia. Pair this with spicy cuisine of any stripe whether Mexican or Thai.
2013 Creekside Cabernet Franc – Vintages 444034 – $22.95 – **** – If you need more evidence in the case of Cab Franc from Ontario look no further. 2013 was not what most people would consider an outstanding vintage for Bordeaux varietals in Ontario. That being said Cabernet Franc thrives regardless of vintage. In a hot vintage you will see a tip of the hat to Bordeaux but in a cooler vintage you get something different. The great examples of Franc from 2013 I would describe as elegant, and fruity. I wouldn’t necessarily age this bottle for more than 3-5 years but I would be thrilled to open this bottle on any night I am serving roast beef or lamb. There are beautiful flavours and aromas of raspberry, and blackberry with a hints of herb and cocoa powder tossed in for good measure.
