2014 Lacey Estates Gewürztraminer – Winery Only – $19.95 – ****1/2 – My favorite thing about this wine is easily the texture. With a tip of the cap to Alsace the oily texture on this wine fills your mouth from cheek to cheek while still holding onto nice acidity. The thing about a texture wine like this is that you need to be mindful of texture when pairing with food. The default settings for most somm’s and critics is to match this with asian cuisine (either sushi, spicy thai or szechuan) but for the summer a wine like this makes a great match for sausages off the grill. The fatty texture of bratwurst or smokies will help amplify the flavours of both the wine and the sausage. The flavours and aromas on this wine are beautiful rose petal with flavours to match there is a subtle spiced note to this wine adding a little complexity to an already delicious wine. Easily one of the best bottles of Gewürztraminer in the province right now.
