2014 Cuvée Jean Philippe Blanquette de Limoux – 2013 Calamus Barrel Kissed Chardonnay

2014 Cuvée Jean Philippe Blanquette de Limoux – Vintages 467217 – $14.95 – **** – This is a traditional method sparkling wine from France and at under 15 bucks it’s a steal. This is a perfect bottle to enjoy while recovering from the holidays. This is bright and crisp with a nice bready note on the nose and on the finish. Flavours are citrus with golden delicious apple.

2013 Calamus Barrel Kissed Chardonnay – Vintages 330613 – $16.95 – ***½+ – This is called barrel kissed but the presence of barrel flavours on this wine suggest a little more than just a peck on the cheek. The nose has vanilla, buttered popcorn and apple. There is nice fruit on the palate with peaches, apple and orange with a nice hint of baking spice on the finish. Be mindful of serving temperature as when this comes out of the fridge it will be a little woody but the fruit will reveal itself as you let it warm up.
