2013 Montes Alpha Cabernet Sauvignon – Vintages 322586 – $19.95 – **** – This is the second vintage of this wine that is made using the “dry farming” techniques. I don’t think it’s possible to take your first sip of this wine without raising an eyebrow. The flavours are very rich and concentraded from start to finish. The aromas are cocoa and campfire smoke with black currant buried underneath it all. This wine is heavy, dark and brooding on the palate with lots of black currant mixed in with the smokiness. This is a perfect wine for grilled meats – beef or lamb. This is a wine that is worth braving the cold if you’re one of those people who only barbeque in the summer (I am not one of those people).
