Wine Review March 25, 2012 – 2009 Flat Rock Cellars Pinot Noir Rosé – 2009 Wildass White

2009 Flat Rock Cellars Pinot Noir Rosé – VINTAGES 39974 – $16.95 – This week I took a look through my notes and found something I can’t believe I haven’t had a chance to talk about.  Serious Rosé are two words that don’t usually fit beside each other in the eyes of most wine drinkers… but trust me there is no better way to describe this wine.  This is bone dry but filled with softer red fruit flavours… notably things like rhubarb and even watermelon.  Very food friendly with a nice clean finish.  Not being Red or White gives this wine a lot of versatility with food.

2009 Wildass White (Stratus) – VINTAGES 85100 – $19.95 – A very complex white blend.  Let’s just say that this weeks wines both fall into the category of “serious”.  This is what I would call a Gateway Wine, it’s a great well priced offering from a winery where if you are not convinced it’s worth the money to buy that 40 or 50$ bottle this is a great way to convince you to reach for that special bottle.  Not everyone can afford to drink a $50 bottle of wine on a Friday night, but $20 is a great price point to get an idea of what a winery can offer.  Very complex and dry with a nice finish and a pleasant aftertaste that lingers.
