Kacaba Summer Wines

2014 Jennifer’s Pinot Gris – Winery Only – $17.95 – ****1/2 – Let’s face it, Pinot Gris is generally boring, inoffensive and tasteless.  This wine from Kacaba is anything but.  Your eyes don’t deceive you, this has a beautiful pink hue to it.  Subtle flavours of apple, peach are layered over cranberry, strawberry with nice grapefruit notes to round out the package.  Perfectly balanced and very dry.  There is so much going on in the glass you will swear this is some residual sugar in the glass but there is not.  I tried to pair this with food but the wine was gone by the time the chicken was barbequed.  You will want to head to the winery as soon as possible to pick this up because there are only 285 cases available. (Silver Medal winner 2015 Ontario Wine Awards)

2014 Riesling Reserve – Winery Only – $17.95 – ****+ – The nose is apple and lemon with mineral.  This is perfectly balanced with just a hint of sweetness on the finish but great acidity.  The flavours are apple, and peach with nice floral notes and mineral on the finish. This is a great patio sipper or something to be enjoyed with grilled chicken or pork.

2014 Rebecca Rosé – Winery Only – $14.95 – **** – This rosé is made from Gamay Noir and should be enjoyed throughout this summer.  Nose is Raspberry, Cherry and Strawberry with flavours to match.  There is just a slight hint of sweetness balanced with nice acidity.  There is a lot going on in this wine that will pair with just about anything off the grill.

2014 Unoaked Chardonnay – LCBO 326975 – $14.95 – ***1/2 – Lemon drop on the nose over golden delicious apple.  Flavours of this wine are Lemon, Lime, and Apple with nice mineral on the finish. This is very food friendly and is begging to be paired with fried chicken, roast chicken or turkey burgers.
