Wine Review September 11, 2011 – Pelee Island Monarch – Strewn Barrel Aged Chardonnay

2009 Pelee Island Monarch – LCBO 107763 – $10.45 – This is an interesting blend of Baco Noir, Marechal Foch and Zweigelt.  Not a very typical combination of grapes.  As I aid this morning though this wine is one of the reasons I do my reviews featuring Ontario wines.  In my mind a good Baco Noir is the signature of Ontario.  The thing I love about Baco is the earthiness found in the bottle.  This wine is no exception.  While this may not be the best red blend from Ontario this is certainly something worth checking out.

2010 Strewn Barrel Aged Chardonnay – LCBO 522730 – $12.95 – This is a very reasonably priced very dry Chardonnay.  Not as acidic or sharp on the tongue as most other Ontario Chardonnays I have tried recently.  Very mellow warm vanilla flavours are found here, with green apple on the finish.
