Wine Review October 23, 2011 – 2008 Kacaba Meritage – 2010 Henry of Pelham Pinot Grigio

2008 Kacaba Meritage – LCBO101477 – $16.95 – After several weeks of Red wines that maybe need a push or two to make them over the top good I had to bring it back to simplicity.  This is an excellent well rounded red blend that is great right out of the bottle.  Like with many other Kacaba wines it benefits from a little exposure to air.  I love a bottle of wine like this for a Friday night sipper if you’re sitting down watching a movie at home, because it does get better the farther into the bottle you go. Make note that Kacaba has redesigned their labels they no longer have the split colorful label and have moved to something a little more traditional and conventional.

2010 Henry of Pelham Pinot Grigio – LCBO 250217 – $14.95 – I love Pinot Grigio… Gris… whatever you want to call it.  I like Chardonnay, I like how Ontario is known for Chardonnay but I feel like very soon Ontario will be known for some great Pinot Grigio.  I have found two very distinct styles of wine made with this grape there are some excellent and crisp.  There are some really really excellent mellow Pinot’s as well.  This is one of the latter, being that there is a lingering aftertaste it can make this a challenge to pair with food so make sure to pair this with something lighter like a pasta with a white sauce, or maybe a roast chicken (basically let’s marry this wine with some garlic).

I am continuing to search for the best Pinot Gris (Grigio) in Ontario and I will have a larger list to publish in upcoming weeks.  If you have one you want to make sure I get around to checking email me andrewinereview@gmail.com
