Wine Review May 20, 2012 – Rosewood Natalie’s Sussreserve Riesling 2009 – Sibling Rivalry Red

You are likely reading this in the middle of your long weekend.  The LCBO is open today, so you can stock up for tomorrow.  This year for your trip up to the cottage, or if you’re re-stocking the cooler mid weekend why not pick up a bottle (or two) of this weeks selections.  Leave your fancy stemware at home, who said you needed to be drinking out of fancy glasses all the time?

Sibling Rivalry Red (Henry of Pelham) – LCBO 126151 – $13.95 – Red Wine is perfect for the cottage, or camping… It doesn’t take up space in the cooler.  Even if cooler space isn’t a worry to you, this wine is great out of the bottle no need to let it breathe.  I have raved about the White and Rosé Sibling Rivalry Wines and this one definitely does not disappoint.  You get strong blackberry and raspberry flavours with a pleasant finish.  I would pair this around a bonfire with some fireworks overhead.

Rosewood Natalie’s Sussreserve Riesling 2009 – VINTAGES 258806 – $14.95 – Now if you have room in the cooler this is a great pick, and one of the easiest drinking Riesling’s I have tried recently.  The secret is that there was some unfermented Riesling juice added to the bottle… While this does make the wine a little on the sweet side it does bring the alcohol content down making it even easier to drink.  Matched with a crisp acidity flavours cover your tongue like a lazer beam.

And if you’re looking for some other great wines that are easy drinking for the cottage this weekend pick up the whole Sibling Rivalry Set (White, Red and Rosé), the Homegrown Red and White from Megalomaniac, or the Connect (Red and White) from Southbrook.  These are great wines that all outperform their price.

Have a great and safe long weekend!
