Wine Review June 21 – 2012 Creekside Laura’s White – 2011 Pondview Cabernet/Merlot

2012 Creekside Laura’s White – Vintages 121764 – $18.95 – The great thing about White blends, as opposed to red blends, is you don’t really know what you’re going to get in the bottle.  This wine is a blend of Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Riesling and Gewurztraminer… what you end up with in the glass is a wine with an aroma of wild flower and flavours of grapefruit and passion fruit but because this wine is very dry the fruit flavours are ephemeral and disappear with nice crisp acidity on the finish.  This is a great patio sipper!

2011 Pondview Cabernet/Merlot – Vintages 307561 – $18.95 – This is your steak wine for the summer!  Lots of very dark heavy fruit.  Black Currant, Plum, Blackberry are mid palate but buried underneath many layers of smoke and cocoa.  There is nice tannin to this wine and even though it’s drinking great now it will age for a few years to come.  This wine is fantastic value.
