Wine Review July 8, 2012 – Wildass Rosé 2009 – Cattail Creek Serendipity Rosé 2010

It is hot outside … yeah I am that guy, pointing out the obvious.  I do find it a little challenging to find a wine that pairs well with the heat.  I have pretty much shelved most of my Red Wines.  I don’t spend a lot of time thinking about serving temperature, but when it’s 40 degrees outside Red Wine does tend to increase in temperature very quickly, and that just isn’t a good thing.  White Wine and Rosé are definitely the way to go… this is also weather where you will want to chill your wine much lower than the “recommended” serving temperature (I do that anyway).  Your preferred beverage whether White or Rosé will warm up to a great serving temperature in no time at all.  It’s also interesting to see that the flavours in the wine do change as the temperature changes.

2009 Wildass Rosé – VINTAGES 71712 – $19.95 – Another interesting wine in the Wildass series from Stratus, the grapes in this bottle not something you usually find in the VQA section.  Coming in with a blend of 7 grapes you end up with a subtle Oak aged wine that if full of flavours of raspberry and cranberry.  Very easy to drink and extremely versatile.  This is the dryer of my two rosé’s for the week.  I love the Wildass wines because they are the full package, interesting label and a very premium wine and a great price.

2010 Cattail Creek Serendipity Rosé – VINTAGES 118059 – $14.95 – Cattail Creek continues to be a gem in the Vintages section delivering yet another well crafted wine that drinks well beyond it’s fifteen dollar price.  A little bit sweeter, but not so sweet that it is over-powering this delivers a nice balance between flavour and feeling on the palette.  A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Gamay Noir and Pinot Noir you will find a strong pressence of Strawberry.  Once again very versatile with just about anything you have going on in the kitchen or on the grill.
