Wine Review July 5 – 2011 Peninsula Ridge Barrel Aged Chardonnay – 2011 Kabang Red

2011 Peninsula Ridge Barrel Aged Chardonnay – Vintages 211490 – $15.95 – A very well balanced Chardonnay with aromas of Apple and Lemon and butterscotch.  The flavours lean towards Apple and Peach with nice toasty oak on the finish and lingering flavours of Vanilla.  It would appear the folks at Peninsula Ridge have lost their minds… There is no barrel aged Chardonnay from Ontario at this price point that tastes this good.

2011 Kabang Red – $19.95 – From the same winery that brings us Wildass this beautiful bottle is another “kitchen sink” blend that includes Cab Sauv, Merlot, Syrah, Cab Franc and Petit Verdot.  Blueberry, and Currant with very firm tannin.  In spite of the fun label this is a very “serious” wine.  This is what I refer to as the complete package when entertaining Beautiful Label, Well Priced and Fantastic Wine.  Best to let this decant for at least an hour before serving with medium rare steak.
