Wine Review July 22, 2012 – 2010 Stoney Ridge Warren Classic Pinot Noir – 2008 Cattail Creek Select Late Harvest Merlot

2008 Cattail Creek Select Late Harvest Merlot – VINTAGES 275370 – $26.95 – While we have had a bit of a break from the heat, it is still HOT this summer.  The thing is this time of year I often forget about Ice Wine and it’s siblings.  The thing is … Ice Wine is perfect for the weather.  You serve it cold, it pairs well with dessert, or on it’s own… and the small portions in the glass let you enjoy your beverage before it has the chance to warm up.  This late harvest is full of flavours of Strawberry and Rhubarb.  Another thing to keep in mind is the fact that this is NOT ice wine, which makes it a little bit less sweet than your usual fare that you find in the long slender bottles.

2010 Stoney Ridge Warren Classic Pinot Noir – LCBO 156125 – $13.95 – As I continue down my path as a Pinot Noir convert I was very surprised at the quality of this wine.  Not as subtle or delicate as some of the higher priced past Pinot’s I have suggested… this is an earth heavy offering with flavours of Black Cherry and Plum.  This would be best enjoyed after it has been decanted, but if you’re looking for something with a bit of punch that you don’t normally find in Pinot pour and serve immediately.
