Wine Review January 24 – 2013 Featherstone Black Sheep Riesling – 2011 Kacaba Single Vineyard Cabernet Franc

150124 - Kacaba Cab Franc

2013 Featherstone Black Sheep Riesling – Vintages 80234 – $16.95 – ****1/2 – This wine is nothing short of exceptional.  It would seem that regardless of vintage Featherstone continues to deliver an exceptional wine at a fantastic price.  Perfectly balanced between sugar and acidity making this a perfect mate to just about anything you can put on the table foodwise … but it will make a fantastic match to Roast or Fried Chicken.  Flavours are lots of apple and lemon with just a hint of white flower on the palate.

2011 Kacaba Single Vineyard Cabernet Franc – Vintages 272146 – $18.95 – ***1/2+ – It is hard to believe that this wine comes in at just under twenty dollars.  Cedar and Herb mixed with Blackberry and Currant on the nose mean that this wine has a bit of a savory edge to it.  Once you get into the bottle you get lots of ripe fruit; black currant, blackberry and raspberry with a hint of cocoa on the finish.  This will not age as long as 2010 or 2012 Cabernet Francs from Kacaba but another year on it’s side will help the tannin soften.  The savory edge on the nose would make this a great match to slow roasted beef.
