Wine Review – Huff

Here’s a look at some new wines from Huff. I am constantly amazed at the quality of the Merlot found

2016 Huff Pinot Gris – $22.00 – **** – This is made with a blend of Niagara and Prince Edward County fruit. The nose on this wine is all apple, a little bit green and a little bit yellow. On the palate this wine is all about the texture with a nice richness that helps keep the orchard in your mouth for a little longer. The finish on this wine is met with nice acidity and keeps the palate cleansed. This is a great bottle to enjoy sans food, but the food pairing possibilities are nearly endless.

2016 Huff Riesling Off-Dry – $20.00 – **** – I really enjoy off-dry riesling, especially in the summer. The important element that makes off-dry riesling great is the balance with acidity. Flavours are lime, apple and peach. With a nice sweetness the fruit flavours just pop on the mid palate. This wine finishes clean with a bit of lingering sweetness on the finish.

2016 Huff Rosé – $19.00 – ****+ – This bottle is made completely with Cabernet Franc and will be a great bottle to hold onto to enjoy well into the fall. There is a nice intensity to the flavours in this bottle of raspberry and strawberry. This is a bone dry rosé, but the fruit still pops with nice intensity. Food pairings are endless as the Cabernet Franc backbone to this wine gives it enough strength to stand up to red meat so expect to see this at any meal in my house.

2016 Huff Merlot – $20.00 – **** – Nice ripe strawberry and raspberry on the nose that are beautifully ripe but not jammy. Given that 2016 was such a hot and dry summer it should be no surprise that this bottle of Merlot is great. What really takes this wine to the next level is that it only costs twenty dollars. In the mouth the flavours match the nose and there is a nice acidity that brings up the finish to this wine. This is a perfect bottle for steak or pizza.
