Wine Review February 5, 2012 – Wine and Chocolate – 2009 Flat Rock Gravity Pinot Noir – 2010 Malivoire Chardonnay

Valentine’s Day is coming (nothing wrong with getting an early start on things).  So let’s take a look at pairing some great wine and Chocolate.  I tend to avoid mentioning specific food pairings because everyone has a little different idea on what goes well together.  I have found that pairing wine and chocolate can be a little more difficult.  That being said I enlisted some help from some of the experts.  Every week I talk about Canadian Wine so why not get some Canadian Chocolate on board.  I had a chance to speak with Derrick Pho from Chocolaterie Bernard Callebaut and he helped pair some great Chocolate with some great wines.

For more information on Bernand Callebaut check out their website:http://www.bernardcallebaut.com

There is also a Bernard Callebaut store in Oakville here are the details:

Also make sure you check out this weeks podcast to hear my entire chat with Derrick about Wine, Chocolate and a couple wines not mentioned in this blog.

Flat Rock Cellars 2009 Gravity Pinot Noir – VINTAGES 1560 – $29.95 – There is no coincidence that I have talked about Pinot Noir for two weeks in a row.  Last week was just a warm up to this week.  This is a nice soft well balanced Pinot Noir that will be sure to please whether you decide to pair it with Chocolate or not.  The pairings that I have for this week are a Dark Semi Sweet Chocolate or the Bonbon Cassis.

Malivoire 2010 Chardonnay – VINTAGES 573147 – $19.95 – This is a great medium-bodied Chardonnay that is full of bright fruit flavours leaning towards apple and pair as opposed to citrus.  While this has been aged in Oak, it is not overpowering with woody flavours.  This is to be paired with Milk Chocolate, and a Raspberry Truffle.

That being said especially with Wine and Chocolate you can have a lot of fun with different pairings.  Both of these wines have a very clean finish so there are definitely a lot of possibilities on pairing these up.  What I recommend pick up both wines and a lot of chocolate and get ready for February 14.
