Wine Review February 24, 2013 – 2011 Tawse Sketches of Niagara Rosé – 2011 Calamus Cosmic White

It is Oscar weekend!  Something I am certainly looking forward to having caught all 9 of the best picture nominees (not that I’m bragging).  Here are a couple of easy drinking crowd pleasing wines to serve for you Oscar party!  Focus this week are on wines that will pair well with a variety of food whether it’s appetizers or a full meal.

2011 Calamus Cosmic White – VINTAGES 255893 – $14.95 – A blend of Riesling, Chardonnay and Gewurztraminer in this easy drinking slightly sweet wine.  Full of floral aromas and tropical flavours.  This will pair well with any of your saltier snack foods (stay away from Salt and Vinegar Chips though).  Keeping with the Oscar theme the Cosmic White won a Bronze Medal at the 2012 Canadian Wine Awards.

2011 Tawse Sketches of Niagara Rosé – VINTAGES 172643 – $15.95 – This is a great serious dry rosé from the Canadian Winery of the Year (for the past 3 years).  Quite light and filled with berry and cherry flavours.  This wine has an almost ephemeral feeling on the palette, being quite dry there isn’t much in terms of lingering aftertaste.  This will pair well with most foods except for heavier seasoned Red meats.

Don’t forget that Cuvée is talking place next weekend in Niagara.  It’s kind of like the Academy Awards of the Ontario Wine Industry something worth checking out at www.cuvee.ca
