Wine Review February 15, 2014 – 2007 Huff Estates Cuvée Peter F. Huff – 2012 Malivoire Gamay

2007 Huff Estates Cuvée Peter F. Huff – Vintages 198754 – $39.95 – I reviewed this wine back in December and I am thrilled to see it on the shelf of the LCBO.  I believe we are only seeing the tip of the iceberg as far as Champagne style wines from a region that is already known for great Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.  There is remarkable depth to this wine with flavours of Citrus under great layers of Apple and Pineapple.  This wine has great acidity but a nice lingering finish that has flavours of Vanilla.  Simply put this is a very BIG sparkling wine.  This is a special occasion wine and certainly something to pick up and save for when that occasion arises.

2012 Malivoire Gamay – Vintages 591313 – $17.95 – Malivoire is one of the finest producers of Gamay in the province.  I am often asked about how to “get into” Red Wine by people who are new to wine, or just prefer drinking white wine.  This is a versatile light and fruity red wine is a great gateway into Red.  Coming from a warm vintage you get lots of very fresh cherry on the nose and palate.  There is a slight hint of pepper on the finish.  This gamay will pair with just about anything you can throw at it foodwise.
