Wine Review December 9, 2012 – 2010 The Foreign Affair The Conspiracy – 2009 Cave Spring Chenin Blanc

2010 The Foreign Affair The Conspiracy – VINTAGES 149237 – $19.95 – I have had my eye on this winery for quite some time.  You don’t see it on the shelf very often at the LCBO because it sells out very quickly.  The label is hard to miss, you see italian landscapes with silhouettes of iconic Canadian animals.  This bottle has Canada Geese flying in formation.  This wine is made using an italian method where they dry the grapes for a period before crushing them.  The wine made has very strong and focussed flavours.  My favourite thing about this wine is that it was great right out of the bottle.  Flavours of Currant, Cocoa fill your mouth, but one thing I love about this wine is it feels very heavy on your tongue.

2009 Cave Spring Chenin Blanc – VINTAGES 627315 – $17.95 – I haven’t had a chance to try a lot of Chenin Blanc, so I wasn’t sure what to expect.  If you’re looking for summer in a bottle this is your wine!  Often I can describe when a wine has tropical flavours but can’t quite put my finger on the specific fruits… but this time you have very strong flavours of mango.  Nice balance with acidity makes it very easy to pair with spicy asian dishes.

This week I had a chance to speak with Steven Elphick, photographer for the book Spectacular Wineries of Ontario.  I am highly recommending this book and others for Christmas.  You can find my whole Christmas list here: http://tmblr.co/ZZ_vXwYc5Kl0
