Wine Review August 5, 2012 – Creekside Laura’s Red 2008 – Hinterbrook Rosé 2011

Creekside Laura’s Red 2008 – $19.95 – VINTAGES 117960 – The wines from 2008 are drinking very well right now.  I still remember visiting wineries over the past two years and talking to wine makers about how challenging it was to work with the grapes from that vintage.  The hard work is certainly paying off… this wine is another stellar example of how great the wines from 2008 are.  A nice smoky flavour right off the nose with caramel buried underneath.  Nose follows through on the palette but not for long underneath a heavy smoke you have Cherry and Raspberry.  Serve this wine immediately, exposure to the air didn’t change this wine much.  It is comfortable and enjoyable right out of the bottle.

Hinterbrook Rosé – $16.00 – VINTAGES 275818 – Another offering in a string of excellent Rosés from Ontario.  Hinterbrook is a new winery and one of the reasons to spend your time in the back of the LCBO.  The thing with Vintages is that it’s not just a place for expensive, premium wines it’s also where a lot of smaller wineries are getting a chance to get put their products on the shelves.  Open this bottle and serve it very cold and you are rewarded with wonderful strawberry flavours with a bit of a kick to it.  The spicy notes on this forces you to sip and enjoy.  This characteristic alone helps this wine stand out in a field already filled with excellent Rosé
