Wine Review August 19, 2012 – The Little Grape that Could

It’s interesting to find wines that while not produced locally… have a local connection.  These wines are just that.  A couple of great food friendly wines that support a great cause.  To take advantage of donating the profits to charity you input a code printed on each bottle to this website: https://thelittlegrapethatcould.com/  There is also more information about these wines at this site.

The Little Grape that Could Cabernet Sauvignon – LCBO 277020 – $11.95 – When I opened this bottle I was pleasantly surprised with a very fruity aroma.  This is very differetn from the usual Ontario Cabernet’s that I recommend.  This is a medium bodied Cabernet Sauvignon with very strong jammy fruit flavours.  You will find things like Raspberry and Plum and a nice pleasant lingering aftertaste.  This is a very easy drinking, unsophisticated Red.  But wine doesn’t always have to be fancy does it?

The Little Grape that Could Torrontés – LCBO 274738 – $11.95 – This is an interesting white, it has a nice balance in flavour and acidity and is very dry.  However like most wines I say are food Friendly the flavours don’t linger on the palette too long.  My food pairing for this was accidental.  I opened the wine late in the afternoon to make my notes, I was a little more rushed than normal in making my impressions of the wine and I was cooking perogies for supper.  Torrontés and Fried Perogies… who knew?  That being said… this wine is very versatile and will pair up with many dishes.
