Wine Review April 1, 2012 – 2010 Pelee Pink – 2010 Catastrophe Red

This is a great week with both wines coming in under the $25 mark!  Trust me both of these wines out-perform their low price points.

2010 Pelee Pink – LCBO 529354 – $10.95 – I know this is another Rosé … but I had to talk about this one.  First you need to look at the price, this one comes in at under $11 so there is no reason to at least give this one a try.  This one drinks well beyond it’s price point.  Ontario has A LOT to offer with Rosé, and this is yet another one that isn’t too sweet with a nice balance between sweetness and acidity.  Deep red in the glass, it is almost like a pale red wine as opposed to a light pink.  Flavours of Raspberry and Dark Cherry, but no candy flavours that you would find in many Rosés.  The grape is Chambourcin which is a new one for me and definitely worth checking out.

2010 Cat-Astrophe Red (Cattail Creek) – LCBO 260356 – $13.95 – A great non-traditional blend mixing Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Gamay.  The interesting thing is with most Red blends you find the Merlot takes some of the edge off Cabernet grapes this wine has used Gamay to take the edge off further.  This makes for an unbelievably easy drinking wine with a suble earthiness, flavours of Dark Chocolate as well.  Make sure to let this decant (open the cap and let it sit for 30 minutes before pouring) to really enjoy.  50 cents from each bottle go to support the Lincoln Humane Society.
