Tawse makes Cider (and Cabernet Franc)

Tawse Cider – The past two winters in Ontario have not been kind to the vines of the wineries. Tawse has decided to fill the gap left by missing grapes with cider. The final result is something fantastic. Just a hint of sweetness on the finish of this cider. This is certainly not meant to be savoured like so many of the wines from Tawse but this is the sort of beverage designed to be gulped down with great company and a sporting event on a big screen. The flavours are clean granny smith crossed with golden delicious apple. The important thing with this cider is it tastes like apples and not like sugar. Currently the only place you can enjoy this cider in Toronto is at the Farmhouse Tavern. I truly hope that Tawse finds a way to get this into Can or Bottle ASAP because I want some.

2012 Tawse Growers Blend Cabernet Franc – $26.95 – ****+ – This is definitely a foretaste of the wines to come as Tawse is still on 2011 for their single vineyard Cabernet Francs. This wine is ridiculously good. Nose of Raspberry, Blackberry and Cocoa with flavours to match. This is a wine that will age in a cellar for 5-7 years but it is drinking great now, and is priced to drink immediately. This is the perfect wine for the budding oenophile. It is priced to drink immediately guilt free, but if you have the patience the tannin should soften and become velvet smooth with a little time in a new wine collection. This is the perfect wine to serve at your dinner party with a nice Roast Beef or Steak.
