Domaine Queylus – Spring 2017

Domaine Queylus – Spring 2017

In March I made a visit to Domaine Queylus. There’s a good chance you’ve never made a stop by this winery because it’s a little out of the way on Sixteen Road. I had to double check my GPS a few times as I moved further away from the QEW. My visit was the day after Cuvée where winemaker Kelly Mason was pouring 2014 Reserve Chardonnay and 2014 Reserve Pinot Noir which both showed very…

2013 Domaine Queylus Tradition Pinot Noir – 2016 Creekside Cabernet Rosé

2013 Domaine Queylus Tradition Pinot Noir – 2016 Creekside Cabernet Rosé

2013 Domaine Queylus Tradition Pinot Noir – Vintages 392738 – $29.95 – **** – Aromas of ripe cherry with a note of vanilla and a slight earthiness. This checks all the boxes for what you expect from Pinot Noir from Ontario. Ripe fruit opens up on the palate and there is a nice hint of baking spice on the finish. Nice acidity keeps this light and easy drinking. Simply put this is a great bottle…

Blue Mountain Gold Label Brut Sparkling – 2014 Domaine Queylus Tradition Chardonnay

Blue Mountain Gold Label Brut Sparkling – 2014 Domaine Queylus Tradition Chardonnay

Blue Mountain Gold Label Brut Sparkling – Vintages 206326 – $28.95 – **** – There is a nice bready note that climbs out of the glass. Granny Smith Apple and Lime follow the yeasty notes. When you take your first taste of this wine you’re greeted with bright notes of everything from the nose but when you get to your second and third sips the depth of this wine really starts to come through. There…

Oct 14 – 2013 Domaine Queylus Tradition Chardonnay – 2014 Keint-He Portage Pinot Noir

2013 Domaine Queylus Tradition Chardonnay – Vintages 417774 – $24.95 – ****+ – The quality of Chardonnay at this price from Ontario is mind blowing. Beautifully complex with vanilla, butterscotch layered over apples and peaches. Flavours match the nose and bring a nice hit of baking spice on the finish. 2013 was not a hot summer in Niagara, but this wine will have you convinced that we had nothing but sunshine. The finish just might…

Chef and Somm: Jedi Level Wine Pairings

April 5th I was invited to a dinner hosted by Chef and Somm. This was the second time I have had the opportunity to enjoy a meal prepared by Chef Eyal Liebman and Sommelier Rebecca Meir-Liebman. You can read about my last meal here. Needless to say I was excited to have an opportunity to enjoy the meal and I did not leave disappointed. The attention to detail was apparent with a pairing of Mooshmallow…

Harvest Ontario – iYellow Wine Club

Harvest Ontario – iYellow Wine Club

Someone found a new favorite wine on November 5th. At the Great Hall in Toronto sixteen wineries arrived to share a piece of the harvest with the city. I had never been to the great hall but the venue was great for a walk around tasting. The iYellow crew really pulled off a fantastic event. The best thing about having wineries come to the city is for many of us we fall into a rut…

Cuvée 2014 – We’re Going to Need a Bigger Boat!

Last year was the first time I had a chance to attend the Cuvée Grand Tasting Gala and I decided then and there it was something worth marking the calendar for.  After a format change last year where the event went from an award ceremony to each winery bringing their “favorite” wine to pour at the event it has swelled from 40 wineries in 2013 to more than 50 in 2014!  It is physically impossible…
