July 10 – 2013 Trius Red – 2014 Hinterland Ancestral

2013 Trius Red – Vintages 303800 – $22.95 – **** – I look forward to this wine every year.  I have said this before, but this is still a benchmark for value.  Coming off the heels of the warm 2012 version of this wine (which is hopefully still ageing in your cellar) we have a wine that I can only describe as elegant. The texture of the wine is velvetty with medium tannin.  Flavours are Raspberry, Blackberry with hints of Currant and Mocha on the finish.  While this wine may not age as long as the 2012 version it will still improve over the next 3-5 years. If you decide to open this wine now it will need 30 minutes to breathe and let the tannin soften but in 6 months it will be perfect right out of the bottle.

2014 Hinterland Ancestral – Vintages 426023 – $25.00 – **** – I had a chance to visit Beaujolais last fall and taste some french Ancestral and I can say without a doubt this wine holds its own.  Off-dry with fantastic acidity. Flavours of candied cherry and strawberry are what you will find here.  This wine is a little lower in alcohol and is very easy drinking.  The acidity and sugar make this a very refreshing light wine to enjoy on a patio.
