Henry of Pelham – Some Fall Gems

2012 Henry of Pelham Speck Family Reserve Cabernet Merlot – $39.95 – ****½ – Right from the moment you open this bottle you know that there is something special in your glass. The depth to this wine is seriously impressive. There are aromas of Raspberry, Black Currant, Blackberry, Cocoa and Smoke. The wine is silk on the palate and fruit flavours fill your mouth with perfectly ripe Black Currant, Blackberry and subtle hints of Blue fruit. This wine starts out easy drinking but it only takes a couple of sips before it closes up. This will need some time in a decanter or in a cellar to open up. This should open up with five years on its side, but you could hold onto this wine for ten years.

2015 Henry of Pelham Estate Chardonnay – Vintages 268342 – $19.95 – ****+ – Rich and bold on the nose. Caramel and Popcorn over Pineapples and Orange. There are a lot of flavours from the barrel in this wine, so be mindful of serving temperature. The ripeness of the fruit definitely speaks to the extended fall that we enjoyed in the 2015 vintage. While there is nothing subtle about the flavours in this wine, it does finish with nice acidity and a hint of spice as the wine leaves your mouth.
